The Click 4’s (Pilot #1)

A mother is in the front hallway with a babysitter. She is ready to leave. A boy and his sister are peeking around the corner, listening to what they are saying.

Mother: (to babysitter): You don’t mind watching them again do you?

Babysitter: (to mother): It’s really not a problem.

Mother: (to babysitter): I hate to leave them again, but work really needs me. I should only be about 2 hours. If there’s anything you need I left a list of numbers in the kitchen.

Babysitter: (to mother): Okay. Have a great day Mrs.-----.

The boy and his sister walk away from the wall into another room. The room contains a computer.

Boy: (to sister, sounding upset): I can’t believe mom has to go back to work again. She said she would help me with my school project, but now I’ll never get it done.

Sister: (to boy): I can help.

Boy: It’s no use. (He sits in a chair and sighs. Focus on the kids changes to that of the click 4’s inside the computer screen, looking outward) I don’t know anything about Africa and I have one day left to finish the assignment. (As he says this he glances up at a map of the world on the opposite side of the room where it is labeled AFRICA. The view of the kids continues to be from the computer screen and there is a sense that somebody is inside)

Sister: Africa (she says slowly as she thinks)…that’s a plant, right?

Boy: Forget it. (As he sighs again)

Sister: (to boy, with excitement): Okay. I know. Let’s play Barbies! (Boy rolls his eyes)

Voice of Arlando (in the distance): Hello. (The viewers see a set of eyes inside the black computer screen, but the kids do not. Both kids seem startled and glance around the room)

Boy: (while looking around): Who’s there? Who is that? (He asks questioningly)

Arlando: Hello…Hello. (The camera then focuses on Arlando as he steps onto the desk) Ya, right here.

The boy and girl run over to the computer and look down at Arlando with curiosity.

Boy: Wow! Who are you? (while the girl is pulling on Arlando’s cord)

Arlando: Hey, let go of that! (while pulling his cord away from the girl. He holds it and strokes it like a cat) I am Arlando…Geeeeeek God of Accomplish! (He says accomplish loudly while striking a ninja pose. The kids look startled and take a step back)

Yvonne enters as the kids step back.

Yvonne: (calmly): Settle down now Arlando. Hey sugar (to kids)…Yvonne here. Don’t worry about him. (looking back at Arlando). He can be…well…a little…excitable from time to time…

Arlando: (cutting in): The insult (accusingly)…

Yvonne: (cutting in): Hush down now. (drowning Arlando out)

Neither has been paying attention to the kids. Focus turns back to them.

Boy: Excuse me. Can I ask who you are…and why you are here?

Simon walks out.

Simon: I thought you would never ask. (The kids look at one another because they are surprised to see another)

Girl: Wow!

Simon stands near the other 2 and waits a second. He looks back to where he entered, then back to the kids, and then back to where he entered again. He crosses his arms and taps his foot with an impatient look on his face, continuing to look towards the entrance.

Simon: (to kids): One second. (He says this while lifting a finger. He walks over to the entrance and looks around the corner)

Simon: (yelling out): Engel? Engelbart?!

Voice of Engelbart (from the distance): I just can’t get this glove to fit. (He sounds like he is struggling)

Engelbart walks out, pulling his glove on the rest of the way and he and Simon walk over and join the group.

Simon: (to Engelbart): It’s about time.

Engelbart:(sarcastically repeating, and making fun of Simon): It’s about time.

Boy: (clearing his throat to grab their attention): Huh-hum. (They all look up together. The kids look back curiously)

Boy: Sooo…

Yvonne: Right. You can call us the Click 4’s.

Girl: Click 4’s? What does that mean?

Yvonne opens her mouth and Arlando interrupts…

Arlando; (to Yvonne): I can handle this one. (He turns to the kids) You see we are like… helpers…no wait! (He says ‘no wait’ short and quickly. He then taps his finger on his chin as though he is thinking)…Warriors! (As he says this, he spreads his hands through the air, testing out the new title in excitement. He thinks about it for a second and then looks down, shaking his head and frowning to himself)…No wait! (He says it short and quickly again and lifts his head with a smile because it has finally come to him)…Internet Superheroes! (He announces this with his hands on his hips and chest in the air. Both the Click 4’s and the kids look at him blankly) Arlando nods his head at the other Click 4’s quickly in anticipation. They look back at the kids as Arlando finally lets his breath out, and his chest deflates.

Yvonne: (to kids): What he means to say is, we are here to help you explore and learn about new things using 4 EASY steps. Here’s how it works…

Engelbart: (stepping forward): My name is Engelbart…here to help you explore the things that interest and intrigue you. (The computer screen lights up behind the Click 4’s. EASY is spelled vertically down the left hand side of the screen. xplore appears after the E)

Arlando: Excuse me… Excuse me. (He pushes forward past Yvonne and Simon and finds his place next to Engelbart) Arlando here. After exploring your options, I’m here to help you accomplish your goal. (ccomplish appears in yellow under explore, after the A) And then my good friend…

Simon: (interrupting Arlando, and stepping forward): Simon. My job is to help you learn to share this information with others…like with each other. (hare appears after the S on the computer screen behind him under accomplish)

Yvonne: (stepping beside Simon): And…as you all know, I am Yvonne. I want to help you understand why the information that you learn is important. (Wh appears under share in front of the Y)

Kids: Wow!

Girl: (with anticipation): So we can explore anything we want Engelbart?

Engelbart: You sure can. That’s why we are here.

Boy: Even about Africa? (He says this with excitement)

Engelbart: Of course. Anything at all.

Boy: And all of you could help me?

Engelbart: That’s why we are here. (He raises he voice slightly) No time to waste. Lets begin exploring your problem right away…

The computer screen behind the Click 4’s turns dark and dreary music begins to play.

Simon: (while shaking in fear): Oh no!

Girl: What is it? What’s happening?

Rays of light blast out of the computer screen and wind begins blowing loudly, which forces everyone to yell loudly to one another. The Click 4’s hang on while things begin blowing off the desk. The kids shield their faces with their arms.

Engelbart: (with the rest of the Click4’s): It’s Cyrus! (He yells loudly over the wind)

Boy: Who! (Still shielding his face from the wind)

Yvonne: Cyrus the Virus. One of the most evil forces within the Internet!

Kids: Oh no!

Engelbart: We need to take care of this before it’s too late, or we won’t be exploring at all!

The camera focuses on the dark screen and we here an evil laugh from Cyrus. The picture fades completely to black and it says To Be Continued…
